d) How do I train my puppy to stop play biting?
It is very important that your puppy learns it is not appropriate to play bite people the
way they did their litter mates. For the first few days, substitute a toy or chew bone for
your hand, or whatever the puppy is biting that he shouldn't. Lots of praise is in order as
soon as they bite the correct object. After a few days, say "no" in a commanding, but not
angry tone and put the correct object in the puppy's mouth. Again, lots of praise is
required when the correct behavior is accomplished. These simple steps will work if you
are consistent.

IMPORTANT TIP:  The biggest cause of real biting is puppy fatigue. We have all seen
children melt down due to fatigue and puppies are no different.
e) How do I keep my puppy from jumping up?
This again depends upon consistency and setting the rules from day 1. For the first few
days when your puppy jumps up, gently put it's feet back on the floor and once this is
done, give lots of praise and attention. After a few days, say "no" in a commanding, but not
an angry voice and gently put the puppy's feet back on the floor. Praise again. I know it is
hard to remember when they are cute and little, but they will be big, and jumping up is
very unattractive in a big dog. Labradoodles can jump very high and they can easily break
your glasses, or give you a fat lip if this behavior is not controlled.
Even better, use clicker training. When the puppy jumps up, wait and very quickly they will put their
feet down as standing on hind legs is not comfortable for them. As soon as the front feet touch the
ground...click....treat. Your puppy will learn in 1 or 2 sessions what you want.
You can use this method to teach sitting as well. Have your clicker and treats waiting. Your puppy will
sit down before long as to look up at you is easier from a sitting position. As soon as they sit,
instantly click and treat. Here at Gemstone's we start rewarding sit at 6 weeks of age. In no time the
puppies learn if they jump they are ignored and if they sit they get fed.
f) What is clicker training?
Clicker training is a system of reward using the sound of a click from a small training tool
and then giving a treat immediately after. The puppy learns that the sound means it has
done a good job and is behaving appropriately. The click can be given sooner than voice
praise or treats, so the puppy learns to associate "click" and "good" faster. For more
