History of the Australian Labradoodle In the mid 1980’s, a woman requested a non allergenic guide dog for her husband from the Royal Blind Society of Australia. The hair and saliva of over 30 poodles were tested. In 1988, Wally Cochrane had the idea to cross a poodle with the service labs. This resulted in one puppy being approved as hypoallergenic. Later, a vet in Australia began breeding lab and poodle crosses and these became very popular. Eventually, the 2 women know as the founders today, took up the cause and created the amazing Australian Labradoodle as we know it today. They mellowed the temperament, reduced the size and improved the coat. Thank you Beverly and Angela for your diligence and amazing foresight that gave us our wonderful dogs.
