Coat Types Multi generational Australian Labradoodles come in 2 *basic coat types- --Fleece and Wool--Both coats are slow growing.
Fleece Coat
- feels silky soft like cool satin
- should be shiny
- can be straight, wavy or soft curls
[spiral curls the most desired]
- when long, it flows when the dog moves
- non shedding to mild shedding
- less debris seems to stick in the coat
- easier to brush and comb than the wool coat
- acts like a sponge with water so can take
a long time to dry Wool Coat
- feels like a woolly lamb or a mohair throw
- can be wavy or curly, [spiral curls the most desired]
- heavier coat then fleece so it doesn't flow unless very long
- non shedding
- the most hypoallergenic of the coat types
- requires more brushing than the fleece coat
- seems to be more waterproof than a fleece coat
so drys faster. Water and dirt do not penetrate to the skin. Dirt seems to fall off the coat and burs are easily removed.
*A note about Fleece/Hair Coats
- usually feels coarser or a bit more wiry than a fleece coat
- usually straighter than a fleece coat
- usually some shedding
- often seen on earlier generation Labradoodles such as F1's [Lab and Poodle cross]
